ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter is a family owned and operated business run by lifelong Wyoming residents, with close to twenty years of guiding experience in the region. They now run four well-established camps across western Wyoming. The country there holds strong populations of elk, moose, bear, and mountain lion, which gives hunters real range in what they can pursue. Horses are central to how this operation works, and theirs are specially bred to be strong, sure-footed, and gentle, which matters enormously in broken terrain. Tack and equipment are kept in good order rather than run into the ground. The guides are experienced and invested, and the standard they hold themselves to is full effort every day of a hunt.
HUNT DETAILS:
This is a high country mule deer hunt in the Wyoming Range, a herd that has produced more Boone and Crockett entries than almost any other in the world. It is also not a hunt for everyone. The country is big and rough, the deer are smart, and the mental side is every bit as demanding as the physical one. Success starts with locating a target buck, and that can take days. This outfitter puts in extensive preseason scouting, and once specific bucks are found they are watched from a distance so their routines and habits are understood before a hunter ever arrives. Pressure from other hunters can displace those deer from their patterns, and the guides work around it, sometimes by sitting behind optics for days and sometimes by changing strategy entirely. Travel is mostly on horseback, with hunters riding to cut distance and finishing the stalk on foot. Elevations run from eighty-five hundred to eleven thousand feet. Meat care is handled carefully during quartering and the pack back to camp, and hunters should arrive in the best shape they can manage.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Camp is kept neat and orderly, and the setup is better than most wall tent operations. The tents sit on wood floors, are heated by wood burning stoves, and are lit by a twenty-five hundred watt Honda generator. Sleeping arrangements are outfitter cots topped with four-inch foam mattresses, which is a meaningful upgrade after a day at eleven thousand feet. A shower is available whenever a hunter wants it. A full-time cook stays in camp and prepares first-class meals for both clients and crew. The guides and camp staff are experienced, professional, and courteous, and that shows in how smoothly the place runs.
