ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter is a family owned and operated business run by lifelong Wyoming residents, with close to twenty years of guiding experience in the region. They now run four well-established camps across western Wyoming. The country there holds strong populations of elk, moose, bear, and mountain lion, which gives hunters real range in what they can pursue. Horses are central to how this operation works, and theirs are specially bred to be strong, sure-footed, and gentle, which matters enormously in broken terrain. Tack and equipment are kept in good order rather than run into the ground. The guides are experienced and invested, and the standard they hold themselves to is full effort every day of a hunt.

HUNT DETAILS:
This elk hunt takes place in Unit 70, just south of Yellowstone National Park, in remote wilderness. Getting there is part of it. From the trailhead, hunters ride five hours on horseback into a backcountry camp set in some of the most striking country Wyoming has. Once in, everything is done on horseback, which is a traditional way to hunt elk and the only practical way to cover ground like this. The focus is on mature bulls, with a target of three hundred twenty inches and better. To hold that standard, camp takes only two to four hunters a week, so nobody is competing for a guide's attention or for ground. Both archery and rifle hunters are accommodated. Elevations run from eighty-five hundred to eleven thousand feet in rugged, strenuous terrain, and hunters should arrive in the best shape they can manage. Do not let the general tag fool anyone, this is a serious hunt.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
This is a backcountry camp five hours in by horseback, and it is impressively well kept for a camp that far from a road. The wall tents are clean and thoughtfully organized, outfitted with wood stoves, new cots, and a real shower stall, which is a rare thing this deep in the wilderness. A full-time cook stays in camp and puts out hearty, all-you-can-eat meals, which matters when hunters are riding and climbing at elevation all day. The Wyoming Outfitter Board has awarded this operation its highest rating, and the state of the camps is a large part of why.

LICENSE INFORMATION:
Licenses for all seasons and hunts in Wyoming are allocated through the state draw. Each unit and season require different numbers of preference points to draw a license. Huntin' Fool License Application Service will help you apply at the time of application.
