SUBMITTING A STORY

  • Keep stories between 500 and 1,500 words, saved in Microsoft Word format.
  • Submit original full-resolution photos, NOT the smaller thumbnail versions.
  • Make sure to send a variety of photos to support your story (scenery, glassing, hiking, camping, live animal, harvest from different angles, etc.). The more pictures we have to work with when designing a story for the magazine, the better.
  • Send the first and last names of everyone in your group photos

2026 Cover Story Prize

For 2026, we are excited to have Weatherby continuing to sponsor our Cover Story Contest. The 12 stories that are selected as covers will receive a Weatherby Model 307 Alpine ST rifle. The retail value of this prize is $1,999. On top of that, the Cover Story winners receive 20 copies of the magazine they are featured in.

2026 Printed Story Prize

Every story published in our 2026 magazine will come with an exclusive Story Package—a $250 value packed with Huntin’ Fool and Gear Fool swag, plus premium gear from our advertising partners. This year’s package includes four complimentary copies of the magazine, a Marsupial Gear Meat Tarp, Koola Buck 5-Pack Synthetic Blood Red Game Bags, a pack of BLK FLG Revenge Energy Sticks, a Huntin’ Fool hat, and a 250 WayPoints credit to spend in the Gear Fool store.

2026 Trophy Room Prize

Hogue Hunting is our 2026 sponsor for the Trophy Room Photo Contest. During January- March, each winner will receive an Expel Folding Scalpel and matching blade dispenser. The MSRP of this set is $150. Hogue Hunting will be switching their knife options each quarter- so stay tuned! All Trophy Room Contest winners are selected based on the quality and composition of their photo.

Stickers for Stories

Would you like your chance to receive a free Huntin’ Fool sticker? All you have to do is submit a 2025 harvest story and photos! We will reward you for taking the time to share your story with us. It’s a win-win! 
By submitting your photos, you hereby grant Huntin’ Fool permission to use them on their website or other electronic form or any media, including print, or in any other manner desired without notifying you. In return, Huntin’ Fool agrees to credit the hunter/photographer with the photo wherever possible.
