ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter is a family owned and operated business run by lifelong Wyoming residents, with close to twenty years of guiding experience in the region. They now run four well-established camps across western Wyoming. The country there holds strong populations of elk, moose, bear, and mountain lion, which gives hunters real range in what they can pursue. Horses are central to how this operation works, and theirs are specially bred to be strong, sure-footed, and gentle, which matters enormously in broken terrain. Tack and equipment are kept in good order rather than run into the ground. The guides are experienced and invested, and the standard they hold themselves to is full effort every day of a hunt.
HUNT DETAILS:
Both archery and rifle hunters are accommodated, and the two play out differently. Archery hunts are action packed, with most hunters having multiple encounters with multiple bulls in a day. Guides locate bugling bulls in dark timber or spot herds out in open parks and aspens, then work through the satellite bulls and cows to try to reach the herd bull, which is easier said than done. Rifle hunts find bulls bachelored back up at higher elevation, which makes for excellent horseback hunting where a lot of bulls can be spotted at distance and a stalk planned properly. Success on these hunts is high, generally on bulls in the two hundred sixty to three hundred class. Bigger bulls over three hundred thirty exist in the unit but are fewer. The elk population is strong here, it simply lacks older age-class bulls. Everything is done on horseback out of a drive-to wall tent camp, at elevations from eighty-five hundred to eleven thousand feet, so hunters should arrive in the best shape they can manage.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
The tent camps here are impressively clean and well organized, which is not always a given in a wall tent operation. Each is outfitted with wood stoves, new cots, and a real shower stall, so hunters can get warm and clean at the end of a hard day. A full-time cook handles the food, and meals are hearty, home-cooked, and all you can eat, which matters when hunters are riding and climbing at elevation all day. The Wyoming Outfitter Board has awarded this operation its highest rating, and the standard of the camps is a large part of why. Hunters ride out from a drive-to camp each morning.
