ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This long-established family-operated outfitting business carries forward a legacy that dates back to the early 1950s. Over multiple generations of ownership, the operation has continually evolved while maintaining a strong foundation built on ethical hunting practices, stewardship of wildlife resources, and personalized client experiences. The current operators have spent decades refining camp infrastructure, trail systems, and overall logistics to create an efficient, comfortable, and highly respected guiding operation. With exclusive guiding rights across a vast and game-rich mountain range, the outfitter is known for attention to detail, strong communication, and a commitment to matching each hunter with the right camp, guide, and hunt style to meet realistic expectations. Much of the business is built on repeat clientele and referrals, a testament to consistent quality, professionalism, and dedication to both hunters and the land.

HUNT DETAILS:
Shiras Moose hunts take place in some of the most productive moose habitat in North America, within a large, exclusive concession spanning approximately 500 square miles and elevations ranging from roughly 3,500 to 10,000 feet. The Shiras Moose, the smallest of the North American moose subspecies, are indigenous to this region and thrive due to conservative management and minimal hunting pressure. Mature bulls typically range from 44 to 50 inches, with excellent genetics and strong overall body condition.

These hunts occur in late October, just after the rut, when bulls begin transitioning toward winter range. This migration creates highly predictable movement patterns, making this a classic “patience hunt.” Moose frequent consistent feeding and travel areas, and success is often determined by careful observation, strategic positioning, and timing rather than physical exertion. While the terrain is mountainous, this is not considered a physically demanding hunt, making it well suited for hunters who prefer a methodical, glassing-focused approach.

Hunting is conducted primarily on horseback and on foot, using old logging roads and established trail systems to access prime areas before dismounting to hunt. Hunters can expect to see multiple Shiras Moose throughout the hunt, along with abundant sightings of other big game species. Opportunity rates are extremely high, and the area is managed to ensure healthy age structure and sustained populations. Eight-day hunt packages are standard, with arrival on day one, hunting days two through nine, and departure on day ten. Additional days may be arranged on a schedule-dependent basis.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Hunters are accommodated in well-maintained cabin-style camps designed for comfort and efficiency in a remote setting. Two main camps serve as primary bases, each limited to a small number of hunters to maintain a high-quality experience. These camps feature solid log bunkhouses with foam mattresses and pillows, fully equipped cookhouses with propane and wood stoves, refrigeration, running water, and periodic hot showers powered by propane-fired systems. A full-time cook is provided in the main camps, offering hearty, home-style meals throughout the hunt.

Several strategically located spike camps are also utilized when needed, each consisting of comfortable log cabins set in pristine, secluded locations. Access to all camps during hunting season is non-motorized, with horses and mules used extensively for transporting hunters, gear, and harvested animals. Hunters can expect a drive to the trailhead followed by a horseback ride of one to three hours depending on camp location. This low-impact access helps preserve the quality of the hunt and minimizes pressure in key areas.

LICENSE INFORMATION:
All hunters are required to purchase the appropriate non-resident hunting license, conservation fees, and species-specific tags prior to hunting. Licenses and tags are arranged in advance by the outfitter and are ready upon arrival to ensure a smooth start to the hunt. Shiras Moose tags are limited and carefully allocated to support sustainable management. Additional species licenses may be available depending on regulations and hunt structure, though Shiras Moose remain the primary focus of this package.

Hunters are responsible for all applicable license and tag fees, taxes, and personal travel expenses. A deposit is required to secure a booking, with the remaining balance due prior to departure to camp. The outfitter provides detailed pre-hunt documentation outlining licensing, travel logistics, firearm requirements, and border-crossing procedures. Assistance with meat handling, trophy preparation, and export logistics is provided following a successful harvest to ensure compliance and ease of transport.
