ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter has been in operation since 1982 and is run by a Wyoming family now in its fifth generation in the state. That kind of history brings a working knowledge of the country and the animals that live on it, and it shapes how the guides approach each hunt. The operation is based in Wyoming and pursues mule deer, elk, antelope, Shiras moose, and mountain lion. Both fully guided and outfitted packages and unguided do-it-yourself drop camp options are available, so hunters can choose the level of support that fits how they want to hunt. Decades of working the same ground give the guides a depth of familiarity that is difficult to match.

HUNT DETAILS:
This is a hound hunt for mountain lion, and the dogs are the center of it. The outfitter has pursued lions for more than twelve years in Wyoming and in neighboring Montana and Colorado, and the pack has treed a great many cats over that span. Mountain lions rank among the most secretive animals in North America, and most hunters would go a lifetime without laying eyes on one if not for dogs able to sort out a track. Hunting is done by cutting a track and turning the hounds loose to work the line until the cat is treed, which means covering ground to locate a track before the chase begins on foot. Fresh snow drives everything, since it holds a clean track and shows how old it is. When conditions line up, treeing one and sometimes as many as three lions in a single day is a realistic outcome, and that has happened more than once. Hunters should be ready to move quickly and cover uneven ground once the hounds strike.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
This hunt runs in and around Casper, Wyoming, with all of the hunting taking place within ninety miles of the city. Lodging is based out of local hotels rather than a camp, which keeps hunters close to town and to everything that comes with it. Rooms are the responsibility of the hunter, as are meals, so each hunter books lodging and covers food for the length of the stay. Casper offers a range of hotels, restaurants, and services, and hunters should reserve a room early and confirm the daily meeting point with the outfitter before booking.

LICENSE INFORMATION:
Tags are acquired over-the-counter and can be purchased before the hunt or upon arrival.
