Huntin' Fool Showcase

August 2018
Story by Glen Dickens
State: Nevada
Species: Sheep - Desert, Sheep - Rocky Mtn

I am living proof of the successful Huntin’ Fool creed to “Apply, Apply, Apply!” It began in Arizona before bonus points when I drew my first Desert bighorn sheep tag in unit 15C North after 13 years of applying. After 18 days of scouting on opening day, December 5, 1986, I took my ram, which had a final B&C score of 172 7/8".

Thirty years later, I drew my second Desert bighorn sheep tag in unit 181 in Nevada with 11 bonus points. After six days of scouting, I took a ram on the sixth day of the hunt that we had nicknamed “Charcoal.” He had a final B&C score of 169 5/8".

The very next year, in 2017, with 28 Arizona sheep points, I drew my Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep tag in units 6A/22N. After 19 days of scouting in unit 22N, I took my ram on the fourth day of the hunt. We had nicknamed him “Betty’s Boy” because my spouse, Betty, had found him. His final B&C score was 178 2/8".

Every hunt was self-guided and included a small group of family and friends. I am deeply grateful for their assistance!
