HUNT DETAILS:
These pronghorn hunts take place on private land across the prairies of the Texas Panhandle and eastern New Mexico, country that holds large numbers of antelope. The pace is more relaxed than most western big game hunting, with a lot of driving and glassing from vehicles to locate a mature buck worth going after. Physically it asks less than an elk or mule deer hunt. What makes it challenging is the animal itself. Pronghorn have extraordinary eyesight, they group up and use many sets of eyes, they move erratically, and they are the fastest land animal in North America. Once a buck is located the hunt becomes spot and stalk. Guides run two hunters per guide, since bucks are usually found in groups and more than one opportunity often develops. Typical shots run one hundred to three hundred yards, sometimes farther. Bucks in the seventy to eighty inch class are what hunters should expect. Hunts run three days.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Hunters stay in a local ranch house or a nearby Airbnb, whichever sits closest to the hunting location. The accommodations are simple rather than fancy, but they are comfortable and welcoming, and they give hunters a real place to relax at the end of a long day. Meals are covered as well, usually prepared by the guide, and the food runs to the direct and satisfying end of things rather than anything elaborate. The point of the setup is to remove hassle. Nobody has to book a room, find a restaurant, or plan logistics on arrival, which leaves the entire trip focused on hunting.
