ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter is owned and operated by a lifelong resident of Mora, New Mexico, who was born and raised there and has spent his entire life hunting and working the mountains and ranches of the northern part of the state. He began guiding as a teenager and has run his own outfitting business for roughly ten years. Elk, Turkeys, and Mule Deer are the species pursued. The knowledge behind the operation comes from decades of watching these animals through every season, learning migration corridors, bedding areas, feeding locations, water sources, and how weather moves game. The guides on staff know the Mora and Chacon country the same way, and the operation is personal rather than high volume.
HUNT DETAILS:
Turkey hunts take place across the same private ranch ground as the elk and deer hunts, in the Chacon Mountain and Mora region of northern New Mexico, south of Las Vegas. The advantage is identical. Everything is on private land, which means birds here are not dealing with the pressure that defines turkey hunting on public ground, and they behave accordingly. The country is rugged mountain terrain, a mixture of timber, open parks, mesas, draws, and ranchland, which is good turkey habitat and a striking place to spend a morning regardless of what happens. The guides bring the same lifelong knowledge of this ground that they bring to the big game hunts, including where birds roost, where they feed, and how they move through the day. Hunter numbers are kept low, so the ranches stay quiet. For anyone who has hunted elk or deer here, this is a chance to see the same ground in an entirely different light.
