ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter is a second-generation guide who grew up in the profession working alongside his father, and he has spent his entire adult life at it. He founded his own outfit in 2012 and soon secured a competitive U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Special Use Permit covering exclusive guide use areas in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge, adding a sole guide use area on the Alaska Peninsula in 2017. After his father's passing in 2024, he took over guiding operations in Aniakchak Preserve, Alaska Peninsula NWR, and Kodiak NWR. The operating motto is Wilderness Fair Chase Hunts, and every hunt is run on those terms.
HUNT DETAILS:
This outfitter works exclusively inside a designated Guide Use Area in the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, country that holds a strong population of mountain goats along with Sitka blacktail deer. The hunt is what a goat hunt should be, which is to say hard. Hunters carry heavy packs and work through steep, broken terrain over several days, and anyone booking should train for it well ahead of time. The payoff is a high opportunity and success rate on billies. Things start at the main camp, roughly two hundred yards off the beach, where the guide goes through each hunter's gear before anyone heads up. From there it is about a two mile hike into goat country, where a spike camp of lightweight two-man tents becomes the base for the seven day hunt. Two guides typically work each hunt, which spreads the load and matters a great deal when a billy has to come off the mountain. Sitka blacktail hunting is included, and many hunters take both.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
This is tent camping in the mountains, and the setup is honest about that. A main camp sits near the beach, and the hunt itself is run out of a spike camp built from lightweight two-man tents pitched in goat country. Meals are freeze-dried, chosen for weight rather than variety, which is what makes packing that far in possible. What the camps do offer is a dry, efficient base and a warm place to sleep, both of which matter more than anything else after a long day of climbing. The gear is simple and well thought out, with the essentials covered and nothing extra carried.

The required hunting license and tags for this hunt may be purchased online before your hunt or over the counter upon arrival at a license vendor. Important for non-residents: to hunt Dall sheep, mountain goat, or brown/grizzly bear, you must be accompanied by an Alaska-licensed guide.
