ABOUT THE OUTFITTER:
This outfitter is led by a lifelong Alaska guide who was raised in the remote bush country and grew up fully immersed in the big-game hunting profession. As a second-generation guide, he learned the trade from a renowned Alaska guide of the 1970s, developing not only deep field knowledge but also the work ethic, grit, and determination that define his operation today. From an early age he hunted, trapped, and lived off the land, taking his first caribou at age ten and his first brown bear at sixteen—an experience that solidified his lifelong passion for guiding and for the pursuit of Alaska’s great game animals. By eighteen he was already a licensed assistant guide, and although he attended college in Fairbanks, he continued guiding spring and fall bear, sheep, and caribou seasons across Alaska.
HUNT DETAILS:
Big brown bears are at the top of the list for many hunters and Kodiak is often their first thought when considering this hunt. This is with good reason as the famed island has earned her reputation for producing big brown bear. The outfitter does it right offering a full 15 day hunt for those that want more time to be selective or simply want to ensure a greater chance for opportunity. Hunt dates have remained consistent, April 20 - May 5 for spring and October 25 – November 8 for fall hunts. Highly experience guides are dedicated to your hunt, you can be certain the bears will be properly judged for age class and size.
Hunt days consist of early mornings with a hot meal before departure. When weather and daylight permit, you will boat in 18-24’ skiffs to adjacent bays and glassing points to look for bears. You may even find a bear near the beach along the way! As this is not a boat based hunt, the option remains to hike out from camp and hunt bears if the situation dictates. Mature boars are very intelligent and will often not tolerate mistakes so patience is exercised to ensure the best situations are presented before a stalk or shot is attempted. Expect to work on this hunt, a positive attitude is must if you are to stay effective in your pursuit for 15 days. Hunting through weather and difficult conditions is important for success on this hunt,If you are prepared and stay positive, you should have an opportunity to harvest a large, mature bear. This outfitter and his lead guides have experienced great success over many years in the area taking many B&C qualifying bears. It is not uncommon for hunters to have an opportunity at 9 1/2 to 10 ft bears.
During fall hunts, clients can also shoot a blacktail at no additional charge and a Mtn Goat hunt can be added on as well.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
With heated cabins and wooden platform wall tents, generator power, and hot meals from a full time cook, you are sure to have a comfortable stay in base camp. Oftentimes, guides may choose to utilize comfortable spike camps if they see it is advantages to your hunt, though many hunts are conducted exclusively from base camp. It is good to have options and hunters should be prepared for either camp option during the hunt.
LICENSE INFORMATION:
This is a draw hunt and requires a guide client agreement at the time of application. This hunt takes place on a portion of Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge where the outfitter has the sole Guide Special Use Permit, as well as adjoining private lands.
Applications for this hunt must be submitted by Dec 15th two years prior to your hunt year and are 100% through the draw for this specific concession. Your Huntin Fool Adventures advisor is available to assist in this process.
