ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter is located in the badlands of eastern Montana and strikes a balance between adventure and comfort that is harder to find than it sounds. The ranches worked here are managed for the quality of the hunt from start to finish rather than for the number of hunters that can be run through them. Whitetail are the species pursued, on a mix of private and public ground. The guides know this land well, which in country like this matters a great deal, since the terrain hides animals in ways that take years to learn. Hunters can expect a full week of looking for the right buck rather than settling for the first one that shows.

HUNT DETAILS:
This is a spot and stalk whitetail hunt, which is not how most people picture deer hunting. Hunters can hike into canyons that may not have seen another hunter in years, or drive to vantage points and glass large tracts of ground from the four-wheel-drive vehicles used to access these properties. Both approaches work here, and the choice comes down to conditions and what a hunter is able to do. Mornings and evenings are spent out covering the vast expanse of private and public land the outfitter has access to, which is a considerable amount of country by any measure. Hunters after a trophy buck and hunters looking to take a management deer are both accommodated. The badlands terrain is what makes this hunt what it is, since deer use the broken canyons in ways that reward glassing and patience over sitting a stand. Hunters should come prepared to walk and to shoot at distance.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
These private land hunts are based out of a wall tent camp that is kept very clean. Sleeping arrangements are generous by camp standards. A hunter booking one on one gets a tent to himself, and hunters coming with a partner share a tent two to a shelter, so nobody is packed into a bunkhouse. A full shower house is part of the camp as well, which is not something most wall tent operations bother with and which makes a real difference after a week of covering broken country on foot. The setup is simple, well kept, and comfortable enough that hunters can rest properly between long days.
