HUNT DETAILS:
The South Wrangells carry real weight among sheep hunters. The World Record Dall sheep came out of this range, from ground now inside a National Park, and numerous record-book rams have been taken from this concession itself. Genetics in this country are exceptional, but genetics alone do not produce a giant ram. Age does. A ram needs to live long enough to put on the mass, length, and character that separate a good ram from a great one, and that only happens where rams are left alone long enough to get there. This concession is managed with that in mind. Age structure and long-term sustainability drive the decisions, and only a very small number of hunters are taken each year, which keeps pressure low and lets rams mature. The result is a place where heavy-horned, fully mature rams still exist in numbers. Hunters coming here should understand they are hunting quality rather than quantity, and the standards reflect that.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
This is mountain tent camping, and the setup makes no pretense of being anything more. Camps are set up to be dry and efficient, which in sheep country matters more than anything decorative, and the essentials are covered without carrying weight that serves no purpose. Meals combine freeze-dried food with a limited amount of fresh food delivered at the start of the hunt, which gives hunters a few real meals early on. The camps are planned around the country being hunted rather than dropped in place, and the intent is to keep hunters warm, fed, and rested enough to hunt hard each day.
