Kansas is known for its expansive prairie landscape, and while it may not be the typical habitat for whitetail deer, they can still be found in these areas, especially where grasslands meet wooded areas or water sources. Hunting in open grasslands requires different tactics, such as spot-and-stalk or glassing from elevated positions. Fencerows, hedgerows, and brushy areas between fields can act as travel corridors and bedding sites for deer. These areas provide cover and security for deer, making them prime locations for hunting, especially during the early morning and late afternoon hours.
This sandhills region often contains fertile soil, which supports a variety of vegetation that whitetail deer feed on.
