DESCRIPTION:

The Sulaiman Markhor is located in the Torghar Range in West-Central Pakistan. This is a smaller markhor with a short body. Shoulder height 35-36 inches/89-91 cm, weight approx. 150 pounds/68 kg. The coat is short, coarse and thick in winter, short and smooth in summer. The male’s ruff is much shorter and less conspicuous than in the northern races. The horns are straight, forming two to three complete spiral turns that can have either a tight twist resembling a corkscrew or a more open twist of the Kabul type. The average size 28-30 inches/70-75 cm, trophies up to 32- 35 inches can be expected.

The Sulaiman Markhor is found in the Torghar Range in West-Central Pakistan, 7-hour drive from Quetta. In particular, the Torghar Mountains are a conservation area and one of the few habitats of the straight horned Markhor. This project runs successfully by STEP. Sulaiman Markhor mating season is in the end of October - November. Depending on the hunting area, accommodations may vary. Some of the areas offer good hotel accommodations. On the other hand local guest houses in villages may be used as a means of lodging depending on the locality. November thru March is the actual hunting season.
