In 2022, Weatherby launched the 338 WBY RPM, a big bore caliber that was purpose built to fit in the lightweight Mark V 6 lug action. That means magnum performance in a 5 lb. rifle, making it the ultimate big game gun for the weight conscious backcountry hunter. The 338 WBY RPM packs a punch, but with Peak 44 stock and the 3DHex recoil pad, the recoil is very manageable for this lightweight gun. The 3DHex recoil pad features a series of 3D printed structures, giving its interior a distinctive honeycomb look. This set of collapsible voids function to stretch the time component of recoil, deadening what would be a sharp kick with other pads.
During testing, the 338 WYB RPM proved to be efficient and allowed for shorter barrels without losing much velocity. The Backcountry 2.0 chambered in 338 RPM has a 20" barrel (18" barrel 2" Accubrake® ST), making it the perfect brush gun in places like Alaska. Bullets range from 185 gr to 225 gr with tremendous terminal velocity and energy to confidently take down even the toughest game.
MSRP: Starting at $2,699
