Story by Dusty Felska
Hunters: Dusty and Kiera Felska
State: Mexico
Species: Deer - Coues

We arrived on January 16th after being told our rifles and bags wouldn’t make the trip due to a weight issue on the plane from Arizona to Mexico. All we had the first morning were jeans, t-shirts, and tennis shoes, but we were lucky enough to borrow clothes from another hunter in camp and the outfitter.

The first morning, it was downpouring rain and we borrowed a gun from the outfitter. Within the first hour, we had two nice bucks run across in front of us and my daughter couldn’t see them up on the hill before they were to crest. Mine stopped and looked back. I tried to get her set up, but she couldn’t see him as we could only see his chest and above. I shot him at 250 yards with a rifle, which I had never even fired prior to that moment.

The next day, my daughter had a well-placed shot on a nice 4x5 Coues, stopping him in his tracks. I haven’t officially scored my buck, but the outfitter believed him to be around a high 120s non-typical Coues, a buck-of-a-lifetime.

This was a hunt we won through Huntin Fool’s Membership Drive. Thanks again as these are memories we will remember forever. I can’t thank Derick Lopez enough for the great hospitality and great camp.
