I went to a vantage point I had found a couple days earlier. As I was glassing trees 300 yards away, I saw movement not 15 yards away in the trees and bushes I’d planned on sitting in. The buck was bedded and looking the other way. I prayed that he did not catch me drawing my bow. As I anchored and turned, I picked a spot and let one go. It hit its mark, and I had my California mule deer.
