Huntin' Fool Showcase

October 2020
Story by Max Bauer
State: Nevada
Species: Sheep - Desert

I drew my second Desert sheep tag in Nevada this past year, having also been successful in the same area in 1996. This was a self-guided hunt with my son, Erie, and my good friend, Michael Ottenbacker, who was also with me on the successful hunt in 1996. This ram was taken less than a mile from where I took the first ram. The hunt was in unit 267, and the ram was taken on December 8, 2019. Unit 267 borders Lake Mead and is a beautiful area to hunt, and we saw a lot of rams.

The ram was 10 1/2 years old and battle scarred. It put me at one and a half slams, having taken another Rocky Mountain bighorn in my home state of Montana and this second Desert since being number 703 Grand Slam/FNAWS. At 72 years old, I hope to hunt sheep for many years.
