DESCRIPTION:

This is a Mexico operation run by an American outfitter that has been in the outfitting business for a long time, and specifically in Mexico. The outfitter spends time in Mexico throughout the entire year checking ranches, feeders, staff, ranch owners, etc. It's not just a part-time gig during hunting season. It's a year round full-time operation that prepares for a full hard run between the months of November and February. This outfitter has earned a reputation as one of the premier hunting companies in Sonora, Mexico. They run their operation on hundreds of thousands of acres of private, low-fence, free-range ranch properties that are managed for trophy coues deer. They offer both unguided and guided coues deer hunts, and this profile is outlining their unguided option. This is a Mexico operation run by an American resident that has partnered with a Mexican resident, and they have been in the outfitting business for a long time in Mexico.

These unguided hunts are set up as a DO-IT-YOURSELF. All hunters and/or hunting parties will always be the only hunters at the ranch at any given time. Most of the hunters taking advantage of these opportunities live within driving distance, and are using their personal vehicles for the hunt. For hunters flying from distant locations, the outfitter can potentially provide a mode of transportation to use during the hunt on the ranch. Coordinating this with the outfitter is something that HFA will do upon booking, and there will be an additional charge on a case by case basis. You’ll stay in comfortable accommodations with hot showers and quality sleeping conditions. As far as meals/food, you’ll be eating authentic Mexican Style meals as well as American meals. If there are specific things you don’t like or can’t eat, the outfitter will always accommodate your requests to the best of their ability.

Hunter’s must know how to skin and cape their own deer to be capable of transporting your antlers and cape(s) over the border. The cowboy/assistant will assist you with capes and boiling skulls to the best of his ability. Freezers and/or coolers and ice packs are provided for capes to ensure preservation. *There have been no problems with this in the past.

Hunts are set up to leave from the ranch house each day and drive to the mountains you will be hunting. Most ranch houses are located on the ranch you are hunting, and if not on the ranch, they will be within close driving distances. Hunters can choose to stay out all day and pack a lunch, or come back to the ranch house and eat. Coordinating this with the cook is up to the hunters. You can drive and glass from the vehicle, glass from knobs located throughout the ranch, or backpack into country. That isn’t visible from the road systems or knobs. All options are available and up to each individual hunter. The terrain varies per ranch, and all of them are mountainous to some degree allowing for optimum glassing opportunities.

INCLUDED:
For these hunts, the outfitter provides lodging, a cook, a cowboy/assistant, a dedicated ranch for your group to hunt, hunting license and tag, border crossing assistance, and a personal escort to the ranch from the border. The outfitter meets all clients on the United States side of the border and accompanies them through the border process, handling all aspects of firearms through customs. This eliminates any reservations hunters may have about crossing the border with firearms. *There have been no problems to date.

NOT INCLUDED:
Groceries are not included in the price, and the average cost is approximately $75 per person/week. You are also more than welcome to take your own food and the cook will make whatever you want. Funds will be sent to the outfitter prior to the hunt and the cook will use those funds to purchase the necessary groceries. Expect to be eating home-cooked authentic meals, and special requests are expected within reason. If additional food is needed throughout the trip, the cook and/or cowboy can purchase more groceries at the hunters’ expense.

TIPS:
The cook and cowboy are paid by your tips at the end of the hunt. It’s customary to combine the tips for each person and split them evenly between the cook and the cowboy/assistant. This will be left up to the group.

**REMEMBER:
This is a DIY hunt! You’re on your own, but with some pretty awesome perks! These hunts aren't meant for everyone, and please DO NOT book this hunt based on price. Book this hunt based on your ability to hunt on your own without assistance. No one will be there to hold your hand. You're on your own to take the right gear and equipment as well. This is your responsibility, so please don't expect that from the outfitter/provider. Otherwise more time and resources would need to be charged to compensate accordingly.

During your stay, if the outfitter is able to come visit your ranch they most definitely will, but don’t count on it. You will ALWAYS have their phone numbers and contact information and can call or message them if you have any immediate or emergency needs.
