DESCRIPTION:

This family owned and operated outfitter has been around since the 70's. They offer fully guided and outfitted Moose, Grizzly Bear, and Caribou hunts. This particular profile outlines their trophy moose hunts, which can also be coupled with trophy caribou and grizzly bear. Moose and grizzly bear tags are acquired through the Alaska state draw tag system. Caribou, wolf, and wolverine tags can be purchased over the counter.

These moose hunts are 7-day hunts with a day of travel on the front and back end of the actual hunt days. If you would like to add on caribou you would need to plan on the last week in August to hunt caribou & the start of moose hunting on September 1st. This area is home to some of the largest moose in the world, and hunters in the this area have the chance to pursue trophy-sized bulls with impressive antler spreads. The genetics of Alaskan moose in this area often produce large-bodied animals with massive antlers, with the average bull being around 60” wide, and the minimum width is 50” or 4 brow tines on one side. To date they have experienced 99% success, hunting trophy bulls on over 1,000,000+ acres.

The outfitter uses a variety of hunting methods, including spot-and-stalk, calling, and still hunting. This diversity of hunting techniques allows you to adapt to different conditions and increase your chances of success. *Please note that the outfitter prefers no archery hunters, but arrangements for hunting with archery equipment can be discussed with the outfitter on a case by case basis.

Accommodation can range depending on location of hunter and moose. It can be anywhere from staying at base camp with cabins, to a spike camp with a cabin and large arctic oven tents with cots, to spike out with pup tents if the need arises to be extremely mobile.

This is not an overly physical hunt especially with the use of Argos. Hunting for moose with an Argo, an amphibious, all-terrain vehicle, can offer several advantages and unique experiences. Argos are designed to navigate through various types of terrain, including swamps, marshes, and thick forests. This allows you to access remote and difficult-to-reach areas where moose may be abundant but inaccessible by conventional vehicles. They are relatively quiet vehicles, especially compared to traditional off-road vehicles like ATVs. This stealthiness can be advantageous when hunting moose, as it reduces the likelihood of spooking the animals while approaching. They are highly versatile vehicles that can transition seamlessly between land and water. This versatility allows hunters to navigate through water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and marshes, expanding the hunting range and providing access to moose in areas inaccessible by other means.

Moose in this area of Alaska, like moose in other parts of the state, come in all shapes and sizes. The area supports a healthy population of moose due to its vast and relatively undisturbed wilderness habitat. This abundance increases the likelihood of successful hunts and provides ample opportunities for hunters. The moose are well-adapted to the boreal and subarctic ecosystems found throughout the state, including the tundra and forested areas surrounding the area. Moose in the this area inhabit a variety of habitats, including boreal forests, wetlands, marshes, and tundra. They are often found near water sources such as rivers, lakes, and streams, which provide both food and refuge from predators. In the summer months, they feed heavily on aquatic plants, willow, birch, and other vegetation to build up fat reserves for the winter. During the winter, they may seek shelter in dense forests or use their large bodies to plow through deep snow in search of food.

Overall, moose hunting in this area of Alaska is considered awesome due to the combination of abundant game, trophy-quality bulls, remote wilderness setting, cultural significance, challenging terrain, and unique adventure it offers to hunters. This area offers hunters the opportunity to hunt in a remote and relatively untouched wilderness setting. Compared to more accessible or heavily hunted areas in Alaska, the wilderness around this area provides a sense of isolation and adventure that is unique to this region.

The terrain is characterized by a mix of boreal forests, tundra, wetlands, and coastal areas. This diverse landscape presents hunters with a variety of hunting opportunities and challenges, from navigating dense forests to traversing open tundra and marshes. While moose populations can be abundant throughout much of Alaska, the area is known for its healthy moose population. Hunters in this region often have high success rates due to the abundance of game and the vastness of the hunting grounds.

While the Nome area is remote, it is accessible by air and, in some cases, by boat or snowmobile. This accessibility allows hunters to reach remote hunting areas and explore the wilderness while still having access to basic amenities and services in Nome.

This is a great opportunity to hunt trophy bull moose in a pristine wilderness setting, encounter iconic wildlife, and experience the solitude and beauty of Alaska makes moose hunting here a truly memorable and awe-inspiring experience. This opportunity stands out for its remote wilderness, distinctive terrain, abundance of game, trophy potential, cultural significance, accessibility, and unique adventure it offers to hunters.
