DESCRIPTION:

This is a family owned and operated business. Collectively the family guides have over 80 years guiding experience, successfully guiding hundreds of hunters from over 25 different countries. For over 30 years, this outfitter has been a leader in Australian hunting. They have the some of the best free-range and estate hunting anywhere in Australia. They hunt from the top of the Great Dividing Range to the wilderness of the tropical outback. Their team has the knowledge, skills and experience to give you a first rate and hassle-free hunt.

They have developed a reputation for growing upper echelon trophies, and providing high-quality hunts. This is no accident either. They have been in the business for a very long time, and their reputation is important to them. They are serious about quality. They hunt their areas exclusively, and manage their herds. They limit the number of trophies taken each season, allowing young males to grow to their full potential, and selectively remove poor genetics. All of this is reflected in the number of trophies taken with us that are high-up in the record book. Also, as has been noted by our clients who have tried other options, it means a “management” trophy with Kingham Safaris is better than many full-priced trophies elsewhere.

The main hunting area is uniquely situated in a remote mountain-valley at the head-waters of two major river-systems. It is close to Brisbane International Airport with daily access to LAX and DFW as well as many other international destinations, yet it is hidden from the outside world by the surrounding 100,000’s of acres of national forest. It is made up of lightly timbered rolling hills and a moderate climate that are ideally suited to all the Australian deer, and is the breeding ground of the world’s largest rusa, plus 11 other species including sambar, hog deer, buffalo, moluccan rusa, axis, red stag, fallow and blackbuck antelope. You will see lots of kangaroos, wallabies and other Australian native animals including, if you’re lucky, the reclusive koala or platypus.

This particular profile is outlining their Javan Rusa Deer hunts. This outfitter is famous for its huge javan rusa deer and looking at the SCI record book it’s easy to see why. 11 of the top 12 (including number 1) in the typical category, and 9 of the top 10 (including number 1) in the non-typical category. The larger of the two rusa, the Javan rusa is a medium sized deer with a coarse grey-brown coat. The hunting often takes place in remote and picturesque wilderness areas, offering hunters the opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Australian landscape. Exploring pristine forests, mountains, and coastal plains adds to the adventure and enjoyment of the hunting experience.

Javan Rusa deer, native to Indonesia's Java Island, are an exotic and highly prized species among hunters. The opportunity to hunt this unique deer species in the wilds of Australia adds to the allure and excitement of the hunting experience. They are known for their impressive antlers and trophy potential. Mature bucks can have large, multi-pointed antlers, making them coveted trophies for hunters seeking to add to their collection or achieve personal hunting goals.

Javan Rusa deer hunting presents a challenging pursuit due to the species' elusive nature and the rugged terrain they inhabit. Stalking through dense forests, navigating steep slopes, and outsmarting these wary deer requires patience, skill, and perseverance, adding to the thrill and excitement of the hunt. They also have a clearly defined rut in June/July. During the rut they make a vocal roar with the occasional elk-like whistle. Battles between roaring stags can be vicious, with serious wounds inflicted. In the rut they will “tail” a female. Before and after the rut they gather in small bachelor groups. They feed in open or lightly forested country. With the hilly terrain we mainly spot and stalk.

Weight: 110-140kgs (250-300lbs)
Height: 110cms (43ins.)
Antlers: 3 points per side with the second tine on the outside of the main beam.
Trophy size: Antlers have been recorded as long as 39 inches, though a mature male will average 33-35 inches. A good representative trophy scores around SCI 145.

Overall, Javan Rusa deer hunting in Australia offers hunters a desirable and memorable experience characterized by challenge, excitement, camaraderie, and a deep connection to nature. Whether seeking a trophy buck, enjoying the thrill of the chase, or simply immersing oneself in the beauty of the outdoors, Javan Rusa deer hunting provides an unforgettable adventure for hunters of all skill levels.
