This one will get attention and we know it! Several hunters contact us each season for an opportunity to hunt goats on Kodiak Island. This outfitter has a sole Guide Use Area to pursue mountain goats in Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. This is a premier goat area with a high population of both goats and Sitka blacktail deer. As with any goat hunt this one is physically demanding and hunters should be prepared to carry a heavy pack in difficult terrain over several days if they hope to be successful. For those interested in the challenge, this outfitter has a very high opportunity and success rate over many seasons.

The hunt begins when you arrive at main camp where the guide will go through your gear and make sure you have everything you need for a 7-day hunt in the mountains. This outfitter makes every effort to have two guides present for his goat hunts to help spread the load as you travel over the course of the hunt and assist with the heavy loads when the billy is harvested. From the main camp, which is located only 200 yards from the beach, your team hike into the mountains, usually 2 miles, and get into goat country. Camp will consist of small backpack style 2 man tents and the menu will be primarily freeze dry food and snacks. Once camp is set you will begin looking for large billies, which are generally found in small isolated groups of 2-4 in the more rugged parts of the mountains. Historically hunters generally harvest their billy within a few days of reaching spike camp. As with any goat hunt, the hunter's physical condition and the weather play a major role in success.

You will be happy to know that deer hunting is included on this hunt at no additional charge. This hunt is not sold as a combo as the primary hunt is for your long-haired billy. Deer hunting is bonus as time and opportunity permit. Previous hunters have enjoyed high success on both species during this 7-day guided hunt.
