ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This outfitting operation has established an exclusive working agreement with the island’s Indigenous community, providing access to the entire island for a truly unique trophy reindeer hunting experience. Built on a foundation of trust and mutual respect, this partnership reflects a shared commitment to the land, wildlife, and local cultural traditions.

The outfitter takes a hands-on approach to every aspect of the operation. This dedicated team will ensure clients receive personalized attention from start to finish. These seasoned hunters bring extensive experience not only in pursuing trophy reindeer but also in navigating the island’s distinctive terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. Hunters can expect to be guided by individuals who know the island intimately and are personally invested in delivering an exceptional experience.

HUNT DETAILS:
Few hunting destinations in North America offer the combination of trophy quality, remoteness, and adventure found on this isolated island in the Bering Sea. Home to an extraordinary population of reindeer, the island consistently produces bulls with impressive mass, palmation, and tine length. Its isolation and historically limited hunting pressure have allowed bulls to reach maturity and develop exceptional antler characteristics, creating opportunities for truly remarkable trophies.

With record-book potential, an abundance of mature bulls, and an adventure that feels like stepping back in time, this hunt offers something truly special. The outfitter’s trophy gallery speaks for itself, showcasing the remarkable quality of animals that inhabit the island.

To date, the outfitter has maintained a 100% harvest success rate, a testament to experienced guiding, careful preparation, and the island’s exceptional reindeer population. Every client who has booked through Huntin’ Fool Adventures or directly with the outfitter has successfully reached the island and harvested a bull.

Despite this impressive track record, hunters should understand that this is a remote wilderness adventure where Mother Nature ultimately dictates the schedule. Weather can complicate travel logistics and occasionally delay hunting activities. Reaching the island requires flexibility and patience, but the challenges of getting there are part of what makes the experience so memorable. In many respects, this hunt feels like traveling to another country, offering a level of remoteness and adventure rarely encountered elsewhere in North America.

HUNTING METHODS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
These hunts are generally not overly physically demanding, making them accessible to hunters with a reasonable level of fitness. Reindeer are typically located by traveling the island in a vehicle or UTV or by glassing from vantage points near existing roads. Once a suitable bull is identified, hunters pursue the animal on foot, using the terrain and available cover to close the distance for a shot.

The island’s tundra consists of mosses, lichens, and low-growing vegetation adapted to its windswept, treeless marine environment. Beneath this vegetation lies rocky, uneven ground that requires careful footing. Hunters should be comfortable walking across this type of terrain, and trekking poles are recommended for anyone who would benefit from additional stability.

GUIDES & HUNTING STRATEGY:
The outfitter typically has two to three experienced guides in camp, with hunts generally conducted on a two-hunters-to-one-guide basis. Vehicles and UTVs are utilized to navigate the island efficiently, allowing guides to cover substantial ground while searching for mature bulls.

Reindeer are commonly distributed among two to five separate herds across the island, although these groups occasionally congregate into one large herd. When this occurs, guides and hunters may coordinate their efforts and hunt together. The abundance of reindeer and availability of mature bulls provide opportunities for multiple hunters to pursue quality animals, even when the herds are concentrated in one area.

The guides take a proactive approach to managing challenging weather conditions. When weather prevents hunters from heading afield, a guide will often venture out to locate reindeer. This allows the team to develop a plan and maximize hunting opportunities as soon as conditions improve.

SEASON DATES & TROPHY CONSIDERATIONS:
The hunting season runs from August through October, offering opportunities to pursue reindeer with both velvet and hard antlers, depending on the timing of the hunt.

Hunters interested in harvesting a velvet-antlered bull should generally plan their hunt before the first week of September, as bulls typically begin shedding their velvet around this time. Those seeking hard-horned trophies may prefer later dates.

Both rifle and archery hunters are welcome, with experienced guides providing assistance throughout the hunt. Regardless of weapon choice, hunters can expect a personalized experience focused on locating and pursuing mature, high-quality bulls.

With a very limited number of hunting opportunities available each year, early reservations are strongly encouraged. For hunters seeking exceptional trophy potential in a remote and unforgettable setting, this island reindeer hunt offers a rare opportunity to experience one of North America’s most distinctive big-game adventures.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Guests stay in a comfortable, private home owned by the outfitter right on the island, complete with hearty meals and all the essentials to stay warm and comfortable. Hunting is done by way of navigating the island by ATV/UTV and vehicles. After long days glassing volcanic ridges, climbing windswept tundra, and stalking trophy bulls, you’ll be grateful for a cozy spot to recharge.
