ABOUT OUTFITTER:
Founded in 2014, this HFA Endorsed Outfitter is a small, family run big game outfitter located outside of Grand Junction, Colorado. Their passion for what they do is as large as the mountains they do it in. Being fortunate enough to live close to the Utah / Colorado border, they have obtained license in both states. They are in the woods year-round, constantly learning about the species they hunt and the country they hunt them in. Their number one focus is to provide each client with a high quality hunt. They are not a large operation and only work with a small handful of guides. All the guides in their camps are men they know very well and have worked with in the past or came highly recommended by others in the industry. Each and every one of them is very professional and contributes a major role in the success of their hunts. They take a great deal of pride in the hunts they guide and put a ton of personal time in the off season scouting and preparing for season. Rest assured you are in great hands any time you step into the field with one of their guides.
HUNT DETAILS:
Colorado Unit 61 elk hunting is hands down some best in the state and has been the heart of our operation for over a decade. This is a great unit for harvesting a respectable bull. Unit 61 has a really good bull to cow ratio. This allows for a long active rut that carries into the earlier rifle seasons. In a typical week of hunting we will usually see multiple smaller bulls as we search for the better bulls in the area. Some weeks we look over as many as 30-40 bulls. Other weeks may be more like 10-15. We ask clients to come with realistic expectations, although this is a limited entry unit that does not guarantee every one 350 bull. Most bulls taken on this unit are respectable 6 points more in the 300 range. What we can guarantee you, is we will do our part to provide you with the best hunt possible. One of the unique things about Unit 61 is how diverse the terrain is, everything from dark pine canyons with aspen benches to rolling hills with pinion and juniper. We have a lot of terrain options and hunting techniques to accommodate hunters of almost any physical condition. Transportation during your hunt will vary from trucks, ATVs, and UTVs. Horse accessed hunting is also available upon request. Hunting will vary from you and your guide intensively glassing to locate elk, then using spot and stalk techniques, or calling/bugling setups to get you into comfortable shooting distances. We also conduct some hunting from blinds and tree stands over active wallows and water sources.
Colorado unit 40 elk hunting offers an experience all of its own. With an entirely different layout than its neighbor unit 61, it definitely has both pros and cons to hunting here. Broken up by large sections of private land, a less than friendly road system and limited public camping. Hunting here can be a little tougher but overall we seem to be harvesting a little better age class bull. This high desert unit is located right on the Utah border. With big open parks surrounded by pinion and juniper, you will find yourself doing a lot of glassing so bring your optics. We use trucks and side by sides to move around the unit. We also have an option to ride horses and camp in a remote part of the unit. (call for more details). Due to the open terrain we ask clients be prepared for shots in the 300-500 yard range. Lodging is a wall tent camp located on private property with all the luxuries needed for comfortable week of hunting including large cots, quality bedrolls, wood, and propane heat with each client getting his own 12×14 wall tent. Full camp style meals are also included.
