DESCRIPTION:

You’ve drawn the tag… CONGRATULATIONS! You're thinking about applying for Arizona desert bighorn sheep and you're trying to figure out who you would hunt with? Either way, if you’re considering hunting with a guide/outfitter, this outfitter is a great option to consider. They are a second-generation desert sheep outfitter with over 30 years of experience guiding desert sheep hunts in Arizona, Nevada, and Mexico. They have been very close to bighorn sheep management in Arizona for countless years. The owner has served on the board of directors of the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society for ten years, and also served as the organizations president in 1995, still serves on the board of governors. This continuous involvement keeps him up to date on the growth and condition of various desert bighorn sheep herds throughout the state of Arizona.

Past clients have never failed to have an opportunity to take a trophy ram, and our opinion is that the service provided by this outfitter are some of the best desert sheep hunting expertise available anywhere. Many of his clients have harvested rams that qualify for the Boone and Crockett record book as well. They’re known for providing the finest camps that are unsurpassed in quality and preparation. Their mission is to provide a successful, safe, comfortable and memorable experience. The trophy pics show that their reputation speaks for itself.

Their focus is not to do many hunts throughout the season, but to put their focus and extra attention to detail on one or two hunts, with their primary goal to obtain the largest and best ram possible for each client.

The units for which this outfitter offers their fully guided and outfitted services are the following: 15C, 15D, 16A both sub-units, 22, 24B all (3) sub-units, 28, 31&32, 37A, 37B, 39 East & West, 40A, 40B all (3) sub-units, 41 East & West, 42&44A, 43A, 43B, 44A East & West, 44B North & West, 45A, 45B, 45C.

If you are looking for a giant Desert bighorn ram, Arizona is hard to beat. There are 31 different units non-residents can draw a tag in, and of those 31 units, 3 of them have multiple hunts on them, so there are actually 35 separate Desert sheep hunts for non-residents to apply for. A 160"+ ram is possible in almost every unit in the state, but this extremely high trophy quality comes at a price. Arizona manages their sheep over and above the criteria they have set in place to maintain at least 75% of their class 3 and 4 rams into the following year. They are one of the most conservative states when it comes to protecting the older age class rams. It is a trophy hunter’s paradise with very low tag numbers in comparison to the population, which results in a chance to pick through multiple rams and be picky on the one you want to harvest.

Desert bighorns are by far and away the more abundant of the two sheep species in Arizona and have far more options to apply for. Just under 90% of all sheep tags issued in Arizona are for Desert bighorns. It is for this reason that if you are looking for the best odds of drawing a tag, it will be found in the Desert bighorn category. In Arizona, there are two main factors that dictate how many applicants apply for specific units, so when going down through the tables, keep these factors in mind. Number one is the ruggedness of the unit and how physically demanding it can be to locate rams. Number two is the trophy potential within that unit. One important note is that all units in Arizona are managed for 100% success even though some units might require more effort and have genetically smaller rams on average than others.
