Hunters going to Kyrgyzstan want to make sure they are in good physical condition for hiking steep hills and mountains at altitudes between 10,000-13,000 feet. From base camp, you will have a 4-5 hour horseback ride to the area where you will set up a spike camp to hunt from. A water filter, camp stove and freeze dried meals are a must in spike camp. Hunters are responsible for bringing their own water filter, personal camp stove (jetboil or similar), and meals (peak refuel/mountain house) for spike camp.
The rutting season, when male Ibex are most active and aggressive, usually occurs in late autumn or early winter. During this time, Ibex are more vocal, making them easier to locate, and their behavior can be more predictable. The rutting season is an excellent time for hunters seeking mature males with impressive horns. This is usually towards the end of September through the first part of October.
Shots are typically taken between 300-600 yards. Hunters are encouraged to bring a long-range rifle that is capable of making accurate shots to at least 600 yards. Spotting scopes, binoculars and range finders are also highly recommended pieces of equipment to bring on your hunt.

TRAVEL:
US citizens do not require a visa for travel to Kyrgyzstan under 60 days duration. The outfitter has their staff that will meet you at the airport in Bishkek. It is strongly suggested that you book your travels through a licensed travel agency that's experienced in international travel with firearms. HFA has great contacts to assist you with this. Turkish Airlines is the only recommended airline as well. Hunters may bring up to 60 rounds of ammunition.
