DESCRIPTION:

Ever since I was old enough to fire a rifle I have hunted the New Zealand back country. I am very passionate about sharing my passion with others and have been a professional hunting guide for over 29 years and an outfitter for 25 years. He has guided in Australia, the USA and New Zealand's best hunting and scenic locations. He is also an International Member of Safari Club International, the New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides Association and is a Master Measurer for Safari Club.

New Zealand is an island nation located in the South Pacific and is made up of three main islands. The land mass is approximately the same size as the state of California. New Zealand has a politically stable, safe environment and a temperate climate. There are no snakes, poisonous spiders or other nasty insects. The only predator apart from the feral domestic cat is Man. New Zealand's population is 5.4 million with just over 1 million living on the South Island where the majority of the country's hunting occurs. The South Island is a beautiful, alpine dominated Island, with an untouched beauty second to none. New Zealand is considered one one of the world's safest tourist destinations. The Lonely Planet Tour Guide books have rated New Zealand as the number one travel destination in the world!

LODGING:
The lodge is located in a rural setting ln the outskirts of a small farming township just 2.5 hours from Christchurch on the spectacular inland route south to Tekapo, Wanaka and Queenstown. This is your luxurious base, and is only a short distance from most of their hunting. The lodge was built for the exclusive use of the outfitters clients/hunters. It is spacious, centrally heated and welcoming - the perfect place for you to relax and enjoy after your day's adventures. The large bedrooms with super king beds, private bathrooms and heated floors have spectacular views of the surrounding alpine landscape. The dining room and kitchen are separate from the lounge, and the whole place is spacious, warm and welcoming, creating a very comfortable environment to relax and enjoy. They pride themselves on their hospitality, delicious food and wine! When you stay at "Their Place" you will enjoy excellent New Zealand wines, excellent food and excellent company.

LADY HUNTERS:
Over the seasons, this outfitter has been privileged to guide some fantastic Lady Hunters. They encourage hunters to bring their wives as in many cases the ladies are keen hunters.Their female clients have proved to be excellent hunters with several top ten trophies being taken over the last three seasons. Ladies have proved to be determined and very good shots. All the team enjoys guiding Lady Hunters.

FAMILY:
New Zealand has been voted one of the safest places in the World for tourists. The outfitter encourages family hunts. Bring the children and let them enjoy the spectacular scenery of the South Island of New Zealand and all it has to offer. They have had the pleasure of guiding some fantastic young hunters, who have come on safaris with their families. Their team enjoys providing families with the safari of a lifetime!

RED STAG HUNTING:
Originally from England, Scotland and Europe, Red Deer were liberated in the New Zealand countryside from 1851 through to the early 1900's. With our temperate climate, complete lack of predators and the lush vegetation, they soon flourished in both the North and the South Islands. Red Stags can be hunted from the 3rd week of February until the end of August. The rut for the Red Stags is March/April. During this time they "Roar" and it's an exciting time for hunting. Early rut is particularly good. Lochinvar Safaris New Zealand offers the finest in both "free range" and "game ranch" trophy hunts on large privately owned cattle and sheep ranches. This stunning land features beautiful mountain/rolling hill country with clear mountain streams and areas of native forest. Red Stags are the European cousin of the North American Rocky Mountain Elk. They are a red/brown colour and an average Stag weighs approximately 550 pounds (200 kilos).

HIMALAYAN TAHR HUNTING:
Originally from the Himalayas in Asia, these stunning mountain goats were liberated into the Southern Alps of the South Island of New Zealand in 1905. The Bulls have a magnificent lion type mane and can weigh in excess of 300 pounds (140 kilos) and are about twice the size of the Nannies, which also have horns.

CHAMOIS HUNTING:
Originally from the Mountains of Austria and Europe, the Chamois is one of the prettiest animals to be had in New Zealand. An Alpine Antelope, they were liberated at Mt Cook in the Southern Alps of the South Island in 1907 and can now be found on most of the mountain ranges in the South Island.

FALLOW DEER HUNTING:
Originally European, Fallow Deer were introduced into New Zealand from 1864, with 26 different liberations taking place. Despite its small size compared to the other deer species in New Zealand, Fallow Bucks can be very aggressive during the rut, inflicting fatal wounds between each other. Fallow Bucks come in various colors - black or chocolate brown, the spotted menil, white and ginger. The Bucks can weigh up to 160 pounds (70 kilos) and the antlers are palmated like moose antlers.
During the rut in April, the Bucks will become very vocal with a grunt or croak noise when they challenge all their rivals. This outfitter offers both "free range" and "game estate" hunts on large private cattle and sheep properties. Fallow Bucks can be hunted from late February - October.

ELK/WAPITI HUNTING:
Originally from the USA, Elk were liberated in 1905 into the Fiordland National Park (South West corner of the South Island). They produced heads which were equal to the best heads taken in the USA. Today, there are few Elk left in the wilds of Fiordland, so Lochinvar Safaris only offer Elk on large Game Estates. New Zealand Elk can produce trophy heads in the 300 to 500+ SCI class. Elk can be hunted from the third week of February until the start of August with the Bugle being March/April.

ARAPAWA RAM & FERAL GOAT HUNTING:
Originally released into New Zealand by Capt. James Cook in 1770, Arapawa rams make an excellent addition to your New Zealand trophy collection. Feral goats were also released by Capt. James Cook in 1770 and have thrived in New Zealand's lush environment. Another great addition to your New Zealand trophy collection.

OTHER ACTIVITIES:
While the hunters are out in the mountains, this outfitter has plenty of activities for non-hunters to see and do. New Zealand has so much to offer, whether it's sightseeing in spectacular countryside, shopping or taking part in some of the many activities that are available around New Zealand. They offer either day trips for touring or complete New Zealand wide personalized tours, that can take from a few days to a couple of weeks. The lodge is 2.5 hours drive away from Christchurch, the biggest city on the Island, where shopping abounds. Other activities and sights include: River rafting, Mountain walks and treks, Fishing (both freshwater and Ocean), Horse treks, Golfing, Photography tours, Garden walks in the city, Art galleries and Museums, Local wineries and restaurants, Helicopter rides, Balloon rides, Skiing (in season), Farm tours, Wildlife tours, And more.

When traveling to New Zealand, this outfitter recommends that (if time allows), you consider spending a few days touring around, sightseeing and experiencing some of the most magnificent scenery that New Zealand has to offer. They have guides that have an extensive knowledge of New Zealand's scenic spots and history and this makes for an exciting tourist experience. If you have an interest in fine wine and food, they will be able to introduce you to, some of New Zealand's finest vineyards and restaurants. Their tour guides will show you why New Zealand has been rated as one of the best destinations in the world for tourists to travel to. A must see list of places to go and see is - Mt Cook, Dunedin, Queenstown, Milford Sound, Haast Pass, Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, Punakaiki, Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura, Akaroa and Christchurch - to name just a few.
