ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This family-operated outfitter has been guiding Atlantic walrus hunts since 2018, building on generations of traditional Inuit hunting knowledge that has been passed down through the family for decades. Hunting has been a lifelong way of life, with experience beginning at a very young age and continuing today alongside the next generation. Hunters benefit from a deeply rooted understanding of Arctic conditions, sea ice, wildlife behavior, and safe boating practices. Combining modern equipment with time-tested techniques, this operation delivers an authentic and unforgettable Arctic hunting experience while emphasizing safety, professionalism, and respect for the land and wildlife.

HUNT DETAILS:
Atlantic walrus hunts take place during July and August, with additional opportunities available in September and October as hunting shifts to surrounding islands. Hunting is conducted across thousands of square miles of Inuit-owned waters at sea level, where walrus are encountered in one of North America's most remote and spectacular environments. Success rates are consistently near 100%, and hunters can expect to see multiple groups of walrus each day during the summer, with groups often numbering five or more animals. During the fall island hunts, it is not uncommon to encounter large congregations of 50 or more walrus.

Each hunt utilizes two boats for added safety and is supported by an exceptional guide-to-hunter ratio of approximately four to five guides per hunter. Firearms are the primary hunting method, with shots typically ranging from 20 feet to 40 yards. For those seeking a traditional Arctic experience, the use of a harpoon is also available as an optional part of the hunt. Every day begins with a careful evaluation of weather, sea conditions, fog, wind, and ice movement before departing. Once conditions are deemed safe, hunters embark on boat rides that may last one to three hours or longer while navigating pack ice and open water. Along the way, it is common to observe ringed and bearded seals, icebergs, massive ice pans, whales, and occasionally polar bears before locating walrus hauled out on ice, swimming between floes, or feeding in shallow water.

Guides patiently glass for animals before using wind, wave noise, and careful boat positioning to quietly approach within close range. Mature bulls provide an impressive and unforgettable hunting opportunity. Hunts are rated Easy/Moderate physically, although weather can significantly influence daily schedules. Wind is often a greater factor than temperature, with sustained coastal winds commonly reaching 15 to 25 mph. July generally offers the warmest conditions with temperatures ranging from approximately 45-55°F, while August becomes cooler with increased fog, rain, and occasional frost. Waterproof clothing, windproof outerwear, quality boots, and insect protection are highly recommended.

A five-day hunt includes one walrus tag and hunting license, transportation during the hunt, meals while hunting, taxes, CITES documentation and legal export paperwork, first trophy preparation including skinning and freezing, flotation suits, and life jackets.

Meals during the hunt include hearty breakfasts of eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast before departure, field lunches consisting of sandwiches, soups, snacks, crackers, and hot beverages, followed by hot dinners each evening featuring options such as meats, soups, salads, seafood boils, spaghetti, and other home-style meals.

Because Atlantic walrus cannot be imported into the United States or Mexico, hunters are encouraged to preserve their memories through high-quality replica mounts, and we have great relationships with replica taxidermists. Additional opportunities may also be available to pursue bearded seals or enjoy Arctic fishing and sightseeing before or after the hunt.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Hunters stay in town each evening, allowing for comfortable accommodations after every day on the water. Guests may choose between a local hotel or a nearby bed and breakfast, both offering convenient access to the daily hunting departure point. Accommodations are not included in the hunt price and are paid separately by the client. After each hunting day, guides return to town where hunters can enjoy a hot meal, relax, and prepare for the following day's adventure.

Travel to the hunt requires commercial flights into northern Canada, with an overnight stay in Ottawa highly recommended before continuing north. Weather delays are common in the Arctic, and building additional travel time into the itinerary greatly reduces the likelihood of missing scheduled flights.

LICENSE INFORMATION:
Atlantic walrus hunts are conducted under outfitter-allocated over-the-counter licenses. The outfitter obtains all required hunting licenses and permits on behalf of the client, making the process straightforward for international hunters. The walrus tag currently costs approximately $200 CAD, while all applicable legal documentation, including CITES paperwork, is included with the hunt package. Hunters should be aware that Atlantic walrus trophies are not importable into the United States or Mexico.

This outfitter hunts in July and August for summer hunts, with additional fall opportunities available during September and October. There is no minimum size requirement, although mature bulls commonly produce tusks measuring 14 inches or longer. Additional hunting days may be arranged for an extra daily fee, and optional bearded seal permits are available for hunters wishing to pursue an additional species.

Clients are responsible for airfare, accommodations, firearm rental if needed, trophy shipping, taxidermy or replica work, international freight, crating, gratuities, and any additional travel expenses. Travel insurance is strongly recommended due to the unpredictable nature of Arctic weather. Standard cancellation policies apply, and because weather can impact hunting opportunities, flexibility in travel plans is highly encouraged.
