Available Alaska Muskox Hunts --- Search HF Aventures
Muskox hunts seem to be gaining momentum in the popularity game amongst hunters. The only hunts available in Alaska for non-residents to hunt muskox are managed through the permit draw system. Nunivak Island in unit 18 has both a fall 2024 hunt and a winter 2025 hunt. Unless you have your own bush plane to take out to the island, you will need to hire a local transporter for housing, food, and transportation to the remote portions of the island. Fall hunters will be confined to the beach and coastal areas using a boat for access. Winter hunters will be able to cover almost any portion of the island with the use of snowmobiles and sleds.

Alaska residents have other hunt opportunities for open registration and subsistence-style muskox hunts, but nonresidents are limited to this permit draw only. Although a guide is not required for this free-ranging species, self-guided hunters should expect to pay $8,000-$12,000 total for charter fees, transporter services, tag cost, permits, and other associated travel costs. Huntin’ Fool recommends that hunters apply in a party of two so that one does not have to make the trip alone and split the costs, and it would allow both hunters to have a permit in hand to chase these prehistoric beasts.
