Available Alaska Elk Hunts --- Search HF Aventures
Raspberry Island in unit 8 was the most sought-after location in years past, but this island seems to be struggling to sustain the high populations it was once known for. Many hunters are now turning to the Afognak hunts for hope at a high success hunt. Permit numbers remain low. Cow-only permits are not covered in this section.

Those fortunate enough to draw a permit should not expect to find a trophy Roosevelt elk, but they should expect a destinationtype hunt in some of the toughest coastal country available. If you can navigate the terrain infested with brown bears, you can combine your hunt with the pursuit of Sitka blacktail deer and have a true Alaska experience. All islands are remote and usually require hunters to backpack from the beaches into large basins to find the elk herds. All elk hunters should expect to pay at least $6,000 in transportation fees (floatplane or boat) to embark on a self guided experience no matter which hunt permit you draw.
If you’re looking for a tough, remote hunt in some of the most rugged elk habitat around, look to the hunts on Etolin Island in Southeast Alaska or the new hunt on Zarembo Island. Though the success rate is much lower than the unit 8 hunts, the draw odds tend to be just as tough with local resident applicants.
