I was born and raised in a small town in Northern Utah by the name of Tremonton. It was there that I was exposed at a very early stage to some of the best hunting and fishing in the West. Hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, and the outdoors has been a generational way of life for my family, both men and women, and goes way back to the roots of who we are and how we’re made up. Hunting, fishing, and trapping have been a strong passion for me my entire life, and this passion has resulted in gaining a true appreciation for the outdoors and everything it has to offer. As a child and through my young adult years, in the mountains was where I found myself the happiest. They’ve become the ultimate playground and my personal equalizer. For me, they strip away all of the worldly, material, and social noise that exists in the everyday race of life, and today, I still try to get there as often as I can. The mountains are where I’ve created some of my fondest memories with family and friends, especially with role models in my life such as my grandpa. In the mountains and in the outdoors in general is where he taught me countless life lessons and applications that I still use and apply today. He didn’t teach me how to live, my grandpa lived, and because I was sewn to his side, by default, I was able to simply watch him do it and follow in his footsteps.
Growing up in a small farm town, my childhood and high school years were full of hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, four-wheeling, sledding, football, and good clean extracurricular fun, and maybe a little mischief here and there. Upon graduating high school, I was presented with a crossroads, and instead of immediately going to college, I decided to serve a mission for my church. I was assigned to Sa~o Paulo, Brazil where I lived for two years on my own. It was a life-changing experience in more ways than one, and I’ve chalked it up as one of the pivotal moments of my life that has led me to what matters most of all to me – my family. It was in Brazil that I met my future brother-in-law, and upon returning home after two years, he set me up with his sister (now my wife). To make a long story short, the rest is history. Sheridan and I have been married for 20 years now, we live in Southern Utah, and currently reside in Santa Clara. We have five amazing children (one son and four daughters), and to say life is good would be a horrible understatement. I am blessed beyond measure to have what I have, and I don’t take it for granted.
I began my education at Weber State University in pursuit of a Business degree and finished at what’s now Dixie State University, being awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. I began my career as an owner/general manager of one of the largest multiline powersports dealerships in the nation, managing six major brands, including Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Polaris, Can- Am, and Sea-doo. At its peak, the business employed over 70 employees and was rated as one of the top powersports companies in the United States. In the end, the powersports industry turned out to be a direct tie into the outdoor world of hunting and fishing, and aside from my family, it is my passion in life.
In 2009, I started a big game hunting and fishing consulting agency called Worldwide Trophy Adventures (WTA). After years working both businesses, I ultimately parted ways with the powersports industry and devoted all of my time to the agency. Along this journey, we created a joint-venture with Sportsman’s Warehouse nationwide, becoming their exclusive booking agency and application service, and eventually, we grew to a point that we purchased Cabela’s Outdoor Adventures and Cabela’s TAGS. After years of hard work, the business grew to multiple offices in multiple states, becoming one of the largest hunting, fishing, and outdoor booking agencies and application services in the world. It was an amazing run full of lifelong, memorable experiences and people I will never forget. After 10+ years in the business and industry, I ultimately made the decision to part ways and sold my interest in the company. Being detached from the industry was easy at first, but it didn’t take long to realize how much I truly missed it. Towards the end of 2021, Huntin’ Fool and I were brought together, and it didn’t take more than a few meetings to jointly realize that moving forward with an official booking agency (Huntin’ Fool Adventures), would be to the advantage of all involved.
I have personally hunted and fished all over the world and have taken world-class trophies with archery, muzzleloader, and rifle equipment. I’ve applied for tags and built points in states all across the country for 20+ years. I love hunting in new locations and for new species, and my passion has always been pursuing big game in adventurous destinations. Some of the areas include Alaska, Canada, Asia, South America, South Pacific, and all over the western United States. There’s nothing like seeing or experiencing a hunt or location for the first time, and it’s truly what makes my clock tick. With this love for new and exciting opportunities also comes my pursuit of achieving the North American Super Slam. This pursuit has taken serious dedication, planning, resources, and time, and with only eight species left on my list and fingers crossed, I hope to achieve this lifelong dream soon.
Besides hunting, fishing, and traveling, as a Hunt Advisor and Outfitter Specialist, one of my favorite things in this line of work is to assist others in attaining their hunting and outdoor goals. When a client draws a tag- of-a-lifetime or books the trip-of-a-lifetime, I personally want him or her to make the most of it, and I don’t take this lightly. As a piece of the overall pie, being able to assist clients in making this process one that’s an enjoyable experience, versus a daunting, time-consuming, and/or assumptive one, is what makes my role and job so satisfactory. There are many hunts and fishing trips for all different kinds of species, and knowing which states to apply in, which outfitter to pair up with, and/or which country or species to book a hunt or fishing trip for can at times be “over-the-top difficult.” Providing clients with the best knowledge of the animal(s), area(s), and outfitter(s) they are going to be hunting or fishing and doing so “without bias” is the ticket, and that’s exactly what I like to do.
To say that I’m excited about joining the Huntin’ Fool Team would be a huge understatement. My aspiration in joining the Team and officially launching the Huntin’ Fool Adventures (HFA) “Booking Agency” has been to bring what I can to the table in the form of experience, knowledge, information, contacts, associations, and my past success and combine those things with Huntin’ Fool and its 25+ years of experience, tools, resources, data, amazing team, and outfitter relationships. It didn’t take long to figure out that it was a great decision, and I can’t wait to look back a year from now and see where this division of our company has arrived. Our team’s sole focus is and will continue to become “Your Ultimate Outdoor Resource!” We’re pumped for what the future has in store for all involved, and most importantly, for our clients and our outfitters.
