The Missouri Breaks is not a place to be in a rainstorm. On October 5th, we woke up only to be fogged in to the point where visibility was limited to only a few feet. We gave it about an hour to burn off. The sun finally began to peek through the fog, and it evaporated quickly. With the sun came the clashing of horns. We followed the noise into a small bowl where we found a large ram laying down. I settled in to take a shot, but his horn never left his vital area. We decided to move closer. We slid in a few hundred yards, and “Chip” walked out of a crack in the landscape at 100 yards. I quickly settled in, put the crosshairs on his vitals, and let the 200 grain ELD-X fly. The bullet did its job, and Chip took five strides and piled up. Words could never describe this hunt and how everything worked out.
