It seems like just yesterday that Garth and Sharyl Carter were sitting down to dinner with Amy and me in Montana. Garth was trying very hard to convince us that I needed to come to work for him at Huntin’ Fool. If any of you know Garth, he does not like to take no for an answer. After a lot of thought, Amy and I made the decision to join the Huntin’ Fool team. For the last six years, I have had the pleasure of talking to many of you on the phone, at hunting shows, or in the field. I really enjoy being a part of the Huntin’ Fool community. We are a group of people who come from all walks of life but share the same passion. I know it sounds corny, but I truly do love my job!

When I came to work for Huntin’ Fool back in 2012, Amy and I had three little boys ages 3, 4, and 6. They loved running around the old office and pretending to hunt all of the trophies mounted on the walls. I had hoped that Amy and I were raising some little Huntin’ Fools, but I knew that only time would tell. Fast forward to 2017. Connor is 12, and he shot the moon and drew a Washington mountain goat tag in the Conflict Reduction hunt in the East Olympic Mountains. The odds for this hunt usually run 1 in 700+.

I never dreamed one of my boys would draw a Washington goat tag, so, as you can imagine, it was very unexpected. I had applied and drawn an Arizona archery elk tag, which happened to have the same dates as Connor’s goat hunt. I am very thankful that Arizona started PointGuard because I wasted no time in turning in my Arizona elk tag so we could give his goat hunt 100% of our focus and time. I will let Connor tell his own story, but you can see a teaser photo of his goat in this article.

As you look through this issue, we are coming up on the halfway point of the application season. This issue covers Colorado, Oregon, Idaho’s big three, and Kentucky. If you are like most guys, you have already skipped to the Colorado deer section as we all love big mule deer. To get you excited about Colorado, I have included a photo of the buck I took there last year. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and give us a call.
