This was my very first mule deer hunt ever, and I was so excited to get to see some new territory since we live in Oregon and the hunt was in Alpine, Arizona. This was a very fun but also very hard hunt.
It took us about 24 hours to drive down there, but it was so worth it. We hunted for about three days because our truck broke down. The first couple of days, we went with only seeing a few small bucks but a lot of does. However, our last morning, we decided to hit it hard. We sat there until daylight in a little valley, waiting for them to pop out. It was probably a little after daylight when we saw a really nice 4-point in a group of about seven other bucks. Once we found the one I wanted, we laid the smack down on it. When we finally got to it, I was so shocked that it was a lot bigger than we thought. It was a 5x4.
What an awesome time, and I was so happy to get my first mule deer. We got him scored, and he was 186".
