HUNT DETAILS:
Sheep hunting in the Yukon Territory of Canada is one of the greatest big-game adventures in North America. The challenge, remoteness, and exclusivity of these hunts draw hunters from around the world, with many considering a Yukon sheep hunt the pinnacle of their hunting careers.
The Northern Yukon offers exceptional sheep hunting and is known for producing old, heavy-based rams. Mineral licks throughout the region contribute to impressive horn growth, and the area has produced numerous record-book rams over the years. Hunters also have the unique opportunity to pursue either Dall sheep or Fannin sheep on the same hunt. Depending on the area and the day, hunters may encounter either species, adding an exciting element of the unknown to the experience. In recent years, approximately 75% of the rams harvested in these areas have been Fannin sheep, providing a rare opportunity to pursue a truly unique trophy.
Dall sheep are famous for their iconic pure-white coats and are the species most commonly recognized by hunters. Fannin sheep are similar in appearance but display a much broader range of coloration, from light gray to extremely dark. Some Fannin rams, particularly in the Blackstone area, can be so dark that they closely resemble Stone sheep.
For the serious sheep hunter, the combination of rugged wilderness, trophy potential, and the possibility of encountering two distinct sheep species makes this a truly exceptional North American hunting adventure.
