HUNT DETAILS:
These hunts take place on more than eighty thousand acres of private land along the Tongue River in eastern Montana. The country sits at roughly four thousand feet and mixes agricultural fields with rolling breaks and rugged coulees. Native vegetation runs to sagebrush and juniper, with the occasional cactus thrown in, so hunters should watch where they put their hands and knees. Both archery and rifle hunters are accommodated, and the two hunt differently. Archery is primarily sitting a blind over water, which is the highest percentage way to get an animal inside bow range in open terrain, with the option to spot and stalk when conditions favor it. Rifle hunting is primarily spot and stalk, glassing the breaks and coulees to locate an animal before working out an approach. Guides know these leases well. The private access is the real advantage, since eighty thousand acres of unpressured ground gives them room to move.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Lodging depends on which part of the operation a hunter is booked into. Some hunts are based in local hotels, while others use ranch houses and cabins located inside the hunting grounds themselves, and all of them have bathroom facilities. The on-property options are the better of the two for anyone who wants to cut out the morning drive entirely.
