HUNT DETAILS:
This combo hunt puts two of North America's most iconic animals on one trip. Alaska Peninsula brown bear are the headline. Mature boars here regularly measure over nine feet and some exceed twelve hundred pounds, which is as big as bears get anywhere. Bear hunting is done by glassing river valleys, tidal flats, and salmon streams, then working out a stalk into range of a specific animal. Very few bear hunters are taken each year, which keeps pressure low and success high, and each hunter gets both a guide and a packer. Caribou run alongside it. Caribou hunting is glassing vast tundra and stalking animals that never stop moving. The southern Peninsula herd is isolated and managed between twenty-five hundred and forty-five hundred animals, so caribou are spread thin in groups of one to twenty rather than massed like the North Slope herds. Most bull groups hold a couple of shooters. Hunters fly into Cold Bay, then out to camp as weather allows.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Camps are heated tents outfitted with cots, lanterns, and the essentials, which is a step above what most Peninsula hunts offer. Meals are hearty and home-cooked rather than freeze-dried, and after a day out in it that matters more than it sounds. Weather is the defining factor here. Conditions run wet and windy as a rule, storms with fifty mile per hour winds arrive every year, and gusts have topped one hundred. Heavy duty rain gear is not optional. Terrain around camp ranges from tundra and marsh to beaches and rocky hills, so waterproof hiking boots plus waders or hip boots are strongly recommended.

The required hunting license and tags for this hunt may be purchased online before your hunt or over the counter upon arrival at a license vendor. Important for non-residents: to hunt Dall sheep, mountain goat, or brown/grizzly bear, you must be accompanied by an Alaska-licensed guide.
