ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter was established in 2001 and is a licensed Colorado guide and outfitter working game-rich private and public land in the western part of the state. Everything they run is fully guided. The shot opportunity rates behind the operation are strong, consistently topping ninety percent for rifle mule deer, rifle elk, and archery mule deer, and seventy percent for archery elk. Healthy herd numbers and a deliberately limited number of hunters each season are what keep those figures where they are. The guides know both the game and the ground, which spans a wide range of elevation and habitat. Good food and comfortable lodging round out the operation.
HUNT DETAILS:
Both bull and cow elk hunts are offered here. The average bull harvested scores between two hundred fifty and two hundred eighty inches, with potential for considerably more depending on how much country a hunter can cover and how hard they are willing to work for it. Every hunt is fair chase, run on prime private ranches and BLM ground. The outfitter leases properties in GMUs 52, 53, 62, 63, 65, and 521 and is fully permitted for the BLM land within those units. Terrain across that footprint runs from five thousand to ninety-five hundred feet, moving from cedar and sage flats into oak brush, aspen groves, and spruce forest. Hunters use four-wheel-drive trucks and ATVs to reach different parts of the ranches before continuing on foot. Hunter numbers are limited each year to protect herd quality. Standard hunts are guided two hunters to a guide, with one on one available, and hunts run four or five days.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Hunters stay in either a cabin at nine thousand feet or a guest house at fifty-five hundred feet, depending on the time of year and which species is being hunted. A full-service cook prepares three hearty meals a day, with snacks and beverages available throughout. Both places offer clean bedding and hot showers, which after a day at elevation counts for a great deal. Neither setup is a tent camp, so hunters get a real bed and a roof for the length of the stay. Both are also equipped to accommodate hunters with varying physical abilities, which is worth knowing.
LICENSE INFORMATION:
Colorado operates on a preference point system for drawing licenses in limited units, with each unit and season requiring a different number of points to secure a tag. Some areas also offer over-the-counter (OTC) tags. Elk hunts are available during Archery (draw only), 1st Rifle (draw only), 2nd Rifle (OTC), 3rd Rifle (OTC), and 4th Rifle (draw only) seasons.
