DESCRIPTION:

This family owned and operated outfitter has been around since the 70's. They offer fully guided and outfitted Caribou, Grizzly Bear, and Moose hunts. This particular profile outlines their trophy caribou hunts, which can also be coupled with trophy moose and grizzly bear. Moose and grizzly bear tags are acquired through the Alaska state draw tag system. Caribou, wolf, and wolverine tags can be purchased over the counter.

These caribou hunts are 5-day hunts with a day of travel on the front and back end of the actual hunt days. The outfitter uses a variety of hunting methods, including spot-and-stalk, and still hunting. This diversity of hunting techniques allows you to adapt to different conditions and increase your chances of success. *Please note that the outfitter prefers no archery hunters, but arrangements for hunting with archery equipment can be discussed with the outfitter on a case by case basis.

Accommodations can be anywhere from staying at base camp with cabins, to a spike camp with a cabin and large arctic oven tents with cots, to spike out with pup tents if the need arises to be extremely mobile.

A 40-minute plane ride from town, your hunt will start at a remote base camp. The majority of caribou hunting takes place from various spike camps. These spike camps increase the odds for success. They use a fleet of 8-wheel Argos while they search for a bull caribou. All of their Argos have enclosed cabs and help protect hunters from the rain and wind. Final stalks can range from a mile to as little as 100 yards.

August makes up Alaska’s rainy season. Hunters should be prepared for rain. Hunters should also be prepared for thick gnats and mosquitoes and should bring bug nets to cover their faces. The area is a true refuge. They try as hard as possible not to leave a footprint.

The hunter is responsible for purchasing their hunting license and caribou tag, as well as lodging and meals while in Nome, AK. The hunter may take the backstraps and up to 100lbs from his/her caribou. The rest of the meat will be donated to the local residents.

The terrain is characterized by a mix of boreal forests, tundra, wetlands, and coastal areas. This diverse landscape presents hunters with a variety of hunting opportunities and challenges, from navigating dense forests to traversing open tundra and marshes. While caribou populations can be abundant throughout much of Alaska, the area is known for its healthy population. Hunters in this region often have high success rates due to the abundance of game and the vastness of the hunting grounds.

While the Nome area is remote, it is accessible by air and, in some cases, by boat or snowmobile. This accessibility allows hunters to reach remote hunting areas and explore the wilderness while still having access to basic amenities and services in Nome.

This is an over the counter tag.
This is typically sold as a 2x1 hunt.
