ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter has been guiding black bear hunts in north central Alberta for more than twenty-five years, and it is a family operation with all three sons working in the business. They have guided hundreds of hunters over that span. What separates them is the time spent off-season, filming, photographing, and observing bears across their areas to learn individual habits and territories, and that groundwork is what the success rate rests on. The guides know their country and have every variable dialed in, from bait placement to timing. Black bear is the specialty and they do not spread themselves across other species, which shows in the results year after year.

HUNT DETAILS:
Hunters here get two bears, which changes the math on a bear hunt considerably. Most of the hunting is done over bait, and any weapon is welcome, with a spot and stalk option available for anyone who wants a more active pursuit. The outfitter runs more than fifty active baits, so there is real selection rather than sitting the one setup that happens to be running. The focus is squarely on mature boars, and many of the bears taken here reach the seven foot mark. North central Alberta is known for large-bodied black bears, with some weighing between four and five hundred pounds. Bear numbers in this area are high, which is the reason for all of it. Success averages better than one hundred fifty percent across two bears, which is about as strong a number as exists in bear hunting. Terrain runs to boreal forest, brush country, and rivers, and the unpredictability of a close encounter is what brings hunters back.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Camp is fully equipped and considerably more comfortable than the phrase tent camp suggests. There is running hot water, a hot shower, real beds, power, and a wood stove in every tent. Three client tents hold three beds each, and a larger tent holds four. Couples are given their own tent when they book together. The kitchen tent is the standout, with a stainless steel sink and food prep area, a full gas oven, hot water at the sink, a microwave, and a coffee pot. Two storage tents and separate guide tents round out the setup. Everything is organized well enough that hunters can put their attention on the hunting.
