“The new American Buffalo Peak Refuel meals are out and fit right in with their lineup of great tasting meals. We love it when Peak releases new meals and immediately ordered some to try in the office. The first thing I realized about the new meals is the little amount of water it took to rehydrate them. Eight ounces for the Mac & Cheese (which was the perfect amount) and six ounces for the Goulash (which was adequate but could’ve used another ounce for my liking).
Then we got into the taste testing. There are two very different flavors with these two meals. The Mac & Cheese had a hint of sweet BBQ flavor that really came in on the backend of the bite, with just enough cheese flavor to be considered Mac & Cheese. The meat was well proportioned to the meal and would be a great dish when you were hungry and wanted to just dig in and fill up.
The Goulash was honestly everyone’s favorite in the office and had more of savory flavor than sweet like the Mac & Cheese. Like I mentioned above, I will add an ounce or two to my Goulash in order to have it a little mushier, but overall, I can honestly say all the noodles were soft and the chunks of bison were all fully hydrated. If you like tomato-based pasta, you will love this meal. The portion size is the perfect amount and filled me up but wasn’t so much that it left me with a food hangover.
I was a little skeptical of having two new meals that appeared to be so similar at first glance. After tasting both and seeing/tasting the difference in them, I realized they are both very different meals and could appeal to a separate audience. Fortunately for me, I like both flavor combinations and have always had an affection for Mac & Cheese as well as Italian style Goulash dishes.” – Garth Jenson, Hunt Advisor
