This area borders the Yukon, and although the moose share the same genetics as the Alaska-Yukon moose, they are classified as Canadian moose in the record books. Moose range from 1,400 to 1,600 pounds and have an average spread of 55-60" with the occasional bull being over 60". There is a very strong population, and there are moose throughout the entire 5,000 sq. mile area.

The traditional horseback hunts start out at a base camp and often spike out a little further into the high country in some of the high valleys and brushy basins where moose can be found almost any time of the year. This is a true and exciting adventure, and every moose hunt is different. Big bulls can be spotted miles away, and horses are needed to close the distance and, most importantly, pack them out. Most times, the moose have to be called out into position and will get your heart pumping. It works well to combo this type of hunt with a caribou, goat, or Stone sheep.

The lake and river hunts may also start out at different base camps or heated wall tent camps using the boats for access. We have numerous lakes that are in the heart of some of the finest moose country anywhere in the province. This type of hunt is usually less physical and works well for calling moose down to the water’s edge during the rut. You never know what might step out to challenge you! Our roomy wall tents are comfortable and equipped with cots and wood heaters. If you like to fish, you will also love this type of hunt.
