The Federal Subsistence Board has just voted to close all non-residental Caribou hunting in Game Management Unit 23 on federal lands. The board has concern about the long term viability of the Western Arctic Caribou Herd and current hunting tactics. This is a very popular unit for drop-camp do-it-yourself (DIY) caribou hunting. Most hunts are based out of Kotzebue, Alaska and take place on federal and state managed lands.
