Author: Austin Atkinson

The Vortex Fury HD 5000 AB combines stunning HD clarity with XR lens coatings, making for an incredibly crisp viewing experience that’s also durable enough to stand up to heavy use in the field. Add in a rangefinder with the capability to reach out to 5,000 yards on reflective targets, not to mention three ranging modes, allowing you to manually enter wind speed and direction to match your shooting scenario, and you have one perfect optic.

“Personally, I have never used a rangefinding binocular because I found that I still needed to use an advanced ballistics app, so I have used many competitors’ products over the years. However, when Vortex released the new Fury HD 5000 with onboard Applied Ballistics calculator, I was excited to get my hands on this setup! The first thing I wanted to make sure of was the quality smartphone app as it is necessary to program your binoculars. Vortex really knocked it out of the park this time with an easy-to-use, stable platform called Fury AB App that easily syncs with the rangefinder via Bluetooth. Once I sync’d my rifle profiles, I no longer needed to have the app handy on my phone during the hunt. The right eye readout inside the binoculars shows you yardage, angle, dial data (MIL or MOA), and much more. Simply dial your elevation turret and pull the trigger!

As an additional benefit, the new Fury HD 5000 AB comes complete with environmental sensors that read pressure, compass readings, humidity, and temperature. Wind speed and directions can be input into the calculator via the smartphone app or using the buttons on the top of the binos. This ability to adjust the wind bearing value and speed while looking through the binoculars is a killer tool for any spotter. I hope to see these sensors and ballistics features added into the higher end glass in the future.” – Austin Atkinson, Hunt Advisor
