Governor, Commissioner, and Conservation Tags are another way you can buy a permit for some of the very best units in most states out west. However, these hunts are not cheap to acquire and you better be ready to pull out your checkbook. All of these tags are auctioned off and sold to the highest bidder. The state and type of tag determines the units and season dates you can hunt. Some states offer multiple tags per species where others limit one per species. Over the years, the prices on most of these tags have creeped to the top end, making it hard for most people to participate in purchasing them. For the most part, these tags are tax deductible and the proceeds go to help wildlife and habitat projects.

Typically, when we go to press each year in January, there are still organizations setting dates and locations for these actions. This has made it difficult for us to get exact information from them on the upcoming year’s tags. With the new Huntin’ Fool website, we have the ability to list all of these tags online with direct weblinks to each organization auctioning the tag off along with the dates and location of each event. We are also able to update that list at any time, making sure we are providing the most accurate information for our members.
