ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter was founded in 2017 with the stated goal of becoming Montana's premier hunting operation. The specialty is elk and deer on private ground in Montana's best general units, along with private land hunts in special draw units and exclusive permit areas. Through industry connections, the operation has since expanded well beyond Montana to include aoudad hunts in southwest Texas and Mexico. The emphasis throughout is on quality over volume and on personalized service rather than moving hunters through on a schedule. For a relatively young operation, the goal they set is ambitious, and the private access behind it is what makes it credible.
HUNT DETAILS:
This is free-roaming aoudad hunting on ranches south of Marfa in southwest Texas and on connecting properties just across the border in Mexico. Together they cover more than one hundred thousand acres tied together by an extensive road system, and the guides can move from one ranch to another to find the biggest rams. Terrain varies enormously, from mild rolling desert to steep, rocky, isolated mountains. Days start early. Hunters travel by side-by-side or high-rack truck, stopping to glass from the road and from elevated vantage points that let a guide cover huge expanses with optics. Once rams are located, the group is evaluated and a stalk planned if a trophy-class ram is present. Aoudad are notoriously unpredictable and change direction without warning, so closing distance fast matters. Mature rams show long chaps and heavy horns, averaging twenty-eight to thirty inches, with the largest running thirty-one to thirty-four with fourteen-inch bases.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Hunters stay in a ranch house on the property itself, which means no commute at the start or end of the day. The accommodations are simple rather than fancy, but they are comfortable and give hunters a real place to relax after long hours behind glass in the desert. A full-time cook is on staff and prepares authentic Mexican-style meals, which is a highlight for a lot of hunters on this trip. Everything is arranged in advance, so nobody is booking rooms, buying groceries, or hunting down a restaurant. The whole point of the setup is to leave hunters free to focus on finding a ram.
LICENSE INFORMATION:
To hunt aoudad in Texas, you must have a valid hunting license issued by Texas Parks & Wildlife. Licenses can be purchased over the counter at any retailer selling hunting licenses in Texas or online through the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department website. For Mexico hunts, the outfitter will provide required tags and licenses.
