HUNT DETAILS:
These wild pig hunts offer an exciting and action-packed hunting experience in rugged tropical terrain. Hunts are conducted on large private ranches where all animals are free-ranging, providing hunters with a true fair-chase pursuit. The landscape features a mix of thick vegetation, open hillsides, and areas rich with natural food sources such as guava, mango, avocado, papaya, and other fruit-bearing trees that attract and sustain strong pig populations.
Wild pigs in this environment come in a wide range of color variations including black, blonde, brown, red, and mixed patterns. While black pigs are the most common, many hunters enjoy pursuing the distinctive red-colored hogs, which are considered particularly unique trophies. Because of the healthy populations on these ranches, hunters often encounter multiple animals during a single hunt.
Most hunts are conducted with the assistance of trained hunting dogs that track and bay the pigs. Once the animal is located and held at bay, hunters move in for the harvest. For those seeking a more traditional and adrenaline-filled experience, pigs can also be taken “Hawaiian style” using a knife once the animal is secured by the dogs. This traditional method provides a memorable and culturally authentic hunting experience.
Pig hunts are available year-round, though the most favorable time generally runs from November through April when conditions are ideal. Hunts typically take place during early mornings and late afternoons when pig activity is highest, and most hunts can be completed in a half day to a full day depending on weather conditions and hunter preferences. With a success rate of approximately 98%, hunters have an excellent chance of harvesting a pig, though harvesting a mature boar cannot be guaranteed. Group sizes are limited to ensure a quality experience and proper wildlife management.
Beyond the excitement of the hunt, pursuing wild pigs in Hawaii offers a unique opportunity to experience diverse landscapes that range from dense tropical cover to open hillsides and scenic vistas. The hunt also provides an opportunity to experience traditional hunting methods and enjoy some of the finest-tasting wild game available, as wild boar meat is widely known for its rich and distinctive flavor.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Hunters typically stay in comfortable nearby lodging while enjoying access to the private ranches where the hunts take place. The outfitter focuses on providing a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere while ensuring all logistics are handled efficiently so hunters can concentrate on the hunt itself.
Field support includes knowledgeable guides who assist with tracking, trophy evaluation, and navigating the terrain. After the harvest, the outfitter can assist with preparing hides and trophies for shipment to the client’s taxidermist within the United States. If a hunter does not already have a taxidermist, recommendations can be provided. International hunters may ship their trophies through a certified U.S. taxidermist and broker, with all packing, export, and shipping costs being the responsibility of the client.
Hunters are encouraged to bring lightweight, breathable clothing in natural camouflage patterns, quality hiking boots, binoculars, and a small pack for water and personal gear. Lightweight rain gear and sunscreen are also recommended due to the warm and sometimes humid island conditions.
LICENSE INFORMATION:
All hunters are required to possess a valid Hawaii hunting license before participating in the hunt. A certified hunter education or hunter safety certificate from any state is required in order to obtain this license. Individuals without proof of hunter education are not eligible to purchase a license.
Hunters traveling with firearms should contact their airline carrier and the appropriate authorities for current regulations regarding transporting firearms or archery equipment. Upon arrival, hunters bringing firearms must register them with the appropriate local authorities within the required timeframe and follow all applicable state regulations.
All hunts take place on private ranches where the outfitter holds exclusive hunting rights, ensuring controlled hunting pressure, carefully managed wildlife populations, and a high-quality hunting experience for every client.
