ABOUT OUTFITTER:
Since 1986, this HFA Endorsed Outfitter has delivered successful, honest big-game hunting adventures across some of Alaska’s most remote and exclusive-use Federal and Private lands. Decades of commitment to integrity, safety, and exceptional client service have earned them access to premier hunting areas few others can offer.
Each spring from mid-April through May, they operate within the Admiralty Island National Monument and the Kootznoowoo “Fortress of the Bears” Wilderness Areas of the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska. This is a spectacular marine ecosystem rich with wildlife, towering forests, whales, and unmatched natural beauty. Their spring hunts reflect their core principles: honesty, success, safety, and true Alaskan adventure.
From June through October, they shift operations to Southwest Alaska’s Wood River–Tikchik River State Park, one of their two fall hunting regions. They’ve guided hunters here since 1986 and maintain a small, privately owned lodge in the heart of the Park. This lodge serves a very limited number of guests each year and is the base for all fall hunting operations in the area.
Their second fall region, the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, lies just west of the lodge. Rugged, remote, and stunningly beautiful, this coastal landscape offers unparalleled wilderness hunting. Operating under exclusive Federal and private permits, they have conducted Brown Bear hunts within the Togiak Refuge since 1987.
Both fall and spring areas are prized for their untouched landscapes, diverse habitats, and healthy wildlife populations. These are true wilderness destinations, ideal for sportsmen seeking 100% fair-chase hunting in environments that demand respect and reward dedication.
They believe success is rooted in maintaining a positive attitude and atmosphere—for clients, guides, and the entire outfitting team. Their goal is to share these remarkable regions and their wildlife with hunters who appreciate not only the pursuit, but also the profound intrinsic value of the full outdoor experience.
Their hunting philosophy is best captured by the timeless words of Fred Bear:
“A hunt based only on trophies taken falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be.”
HUNT DETAILS:
Many Moose and fall Bear hunters begin their trip in the comfortable base camp cabins, traveling to and from small tented spike camps when needed to capitalize on optimal hunting locations. For those who prefer it, the entire hunt can be based solely out of a cabin if arranged in advance.
River jet boats are the primary mode of transportation, navigating the same systems the team fishes during the summer season. When hunting moose, the outfitter employs two core methods: traditional “spot and stalk” techniques and strategic calling.
Moose in the area are true trophies, averaging around 61 inches in antler width, with bulls typically ranging from 54 to an exceptional 72 inches.
Brown Bears focus shifts after a successful moose kill, targeting salmon spawning areas and the region’s productive berry patches where bears are frequently active.
Brown Bears in this region average 8' to 8'6" and are known for their impressive size, striking appearance, and notable color variations. Along with the classic brown bear featuring golden highlights, hunters often encounter bears with stunning silver or cream-colored coats.
Success rates have varied over the decades, ranging from 60% during more difficult seasons to 100% in many others. As with any wilderness hunt, success depends on several variables, including weather, physical and mental readiness, rut activity, and salmon spawning conditions—all of which influence the dynamics of a Moose–Bear combination hunt.
This adventure is especially popular among anglers. While hunting moose and bears, hunters also enjoy access to world-class fishing for Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char, and Grayling. Bringing a positive attitude and an appreciation for the region’s breathtaking scenery only enhances the overall experience.
