ABOUT OUTFITTER:
This HFA-Endorsed Outfitter works western Wyoming, in the country near Yellowstone National Park and Cody, and the species list is about as complete as it gets in the state. Hunters can pursue elk, deer, bighorn sheep, moose, antelope, mountain goat, black bear, and mountain lion. The operation is not limited to hunting either. Grizzly bear sight-seeing tours, summer pack trips into the high country, and fishing trips are all on offer, which makes it workable for families and for hunters bringing along people who would rather not carry a rifle. Whether the goal is a specific animal or simply time in that part of the state, the outfit is set up to handle both.

HUNT DETAILS:
Mountain goat hunting is unlike anything else in the West, and this hunt is run accordingly. Spot and stalk is the primary method, which on goats means long hours behind good optics picking apart cliffs and basins until a billy is located. Patience is the requirement that separates hunters who succeed here from those who do not, and physical endurance runs a close second. The terrain is harsh, and the guides who work it are expert at navigating it and at getting a hunter into a position where a clean, ethical shot is possible rather than forcing a marginal one. That last part matters a great deal on goats, since an animal shot in the wrong place can end up somewhere unrecoverable. The hunts run out of the outfitter's backcountry camps, which puts hunters in goat habitat from the start rather than driving to it each morning. Hunters should arrive fit, comfortable shooting in steep terrain, and prepared for the high country.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
This outfitter runs two well-established backcountry camps that put hunters directly into remote, game-rich terrain, where the hunting begins right outside the tent. The camps use comfortable wall tents heated by camp stoves, which keeps hunters warm and dry when mountain weather turns, and on a goat hunt that shelter earns its keep, since conditions up high change without much warning. Hearty home-cooked meals are prepared daily, which matters when hunters are burning through calories climbing. It is a traditional wilderness camp, simple and well run, and coming back to a warm tent after a day on the rocks makes the next day possible.

LICENSE INFORMATION:
Wyoming mountain goat tags are extremely limited and available through a draw system. Applicants should expect high competition. Speak with an HFA Advisor about draw odds and how to maximize your chances, there are no bonus points for mountain goat tags in Wyoming.
